Overflight Alaska: Beyond the Chart, Built for the Bush

The Overflight Alaska package delivers a growing library of custom EFB overlays designed to enhance a pilot’s understanding of flying throughout Alaska’s vast and challenging terrain. Unlike FAA Chart Supplement overlays, Overflight Alaska focuses on critical, real-world information not found in official publications. Current offerings include a detailed coastal waypoint package for Southern Alaska and a fully color-coded Alaska Parks overlay to help pilots easily identify protected airspace boundaries. Upcoming additions will include overlays of all Alaska Game Management Unit (GMU) boundaries, a comprehensive wire strike avoidance package identifying major powerlines and towers, a private lands overlay designed to help avoid unintentional land use during bush operations, and an “Alaska Passes” overlay—highlighting every known mountain pass in the state with critical notes on terrain, altitude, routing, and safe flying considerations.

Due to the dynamic and evolving nature of this content, Overflight Alaska overlays are available exclusively through a subscription. This ensures pilots always have access to the latest updates and newly released features as our coverage expands. The speed at which new overlays are developed depends directly on public interest and support for Overflight packages, and we welcome pilot input at every step. User recommendations are not only encouraged—they’re essential to building practical tools that truly serve the Alaska flying community.

Alaskan Coastal Waypoints

The Alaska Coastal Waypoints overlay by Overflight is an ongoing project designed to chart every significant coastal reference point along Alaska’s vast and rugged shoreline. While still in development, the current version already provides comprehensive coverage of Southern Alaska, offering valuable navigation support for pilots flying VFR along the coast. This overlay is included with our active content packages and will continue to expand with each update. In addition to standard waypoint references, Overflight plans to enhance select landmarks with images and brief descriptions—highlighting locations of historical interest or exceptional visual prominence. Built to support safe and informed navigation in Alaska’s coastal environments, this evolving overlay is a powerful tool for any pilot operating in the region.

Alaska Parks System

The Alaska Parks System overlay by Overflight provides a clear, color-coded visual of park boundaries across the state—helping pilots identify and navigate around protected areas with ease. Designed to support both in-flight situational awareness and preflight planning, this overlay outlines state and federal parks, preserves, and wildlife refuges directly on your EFB. As part of future updates, Overflight will incorporate downloadable PDFs for each park, featuring detailed regulatory information, recommended flying practices, and relevant ground-use laws. These additions will help pilots not only stay compliant with overflight restrictions but also better understand the environmental and legal considerations when flying near or within Alaska’s protected lands.
